A Website Meant To Be Explored

Written by Rod Barker on May 1st, 2009

As most everyone who visits our website on a regular basis knows, we publish a monthly update. On the first day of each month, we switch out the major images on our home page to visually communicate special happenings on The Trail. Like a monthly magazine, we try to feature at least one or two news stories. We introduce new Painted Ponies merchandise. We provide a link to an e-Newsletter that will instantly turn visitors into a member of the Trail of Painted Ponies In-crowd. We list new Treasures from the Vault. And, we keep an easy-to-navigate and enjoyable shopping experience fresh. Our goal is to provide visitors with an elegant introduction to The Trail of Painted Ponies and, through dynamic content, to make our website interesting and entertaining enough that you will want to return, again and again.

For many, this may be good enough. And if you are pleased and content with your experience, we want to thank you for giving us the time you have, and we look forward to your next visit.

For the curious and those who can’t get enough when it comes to Painted Ponies, a lot more lies beneath the surface of those obvious pages. Indeed, for those inclined to explore a little, they will discover that a rich and rewarding, a useful and amusing world is just a click or two away.

Did you know, for example, that we have added an entire section to our website that is dedicated to horse lovers? Under Collectors Guide you will find a link to “Horses, Horses, Horses,” a section that includes Horse Games, Horse Tales, Tips on Horse Drawing, and, inspired by the YouTube craze, our own video screenings. Want to watch a real horse paint a Paint Your Own Pony? Click Here. Want to check out a clip from the award-winning documentary film made about The Trail of Painted Ponies? Click Here. Want to see what a Painted Ponies collector posted on YouTube? Click Here. We have even designed this section to be interactive, meaning you are invited to send in your videos relating to Painted Ponies or just Horses!

We’ve heard from art teachers, from the elementary school level through the high school level, that Paint Your Own Pony kits successfully jumpstart the creative process in their students. Apparently painting a three-dimensional horse is a lot less intimidating than coming up with an original drawing on a blank piece of paper. And so we have also created a Young Artists section to our website. Click here for a fascinating illustration of what Painted Ponies are bringing to the lives of talented young people.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then every Painted Pony at least deserves to have a poem written about it. That was our thinking when we announced a Poetry Contest, which produced such fine writing that we have archived the top ten submissions for newcomers to our site who may have missed the original competition. Click Here and enjoy again how inspiring Painted Ponies can be.

“Is it a copyright infringement if I have a Painted Pony design tattoo’d on my body?” This is a recent question answered in the Ask the Trailmaster section, which not only is informative, it opens a window on what fellow Painted Pony collectors are wondering. Click Here to be educated… and surprised.

We believe in the Power of Partnerships. From the start of The Trail of Painted Ponies as a Santa Fe, New Mexico-based public art project, we have had the privilege of partnering with many worthy charitable organizations. Learn more about our philanthropic philosophy and some of the organizations we have worked with by Clicking Here. You can even nominate your own favorite non-profit organization for partnership consideration!

These are just a few of the “hidden” pages on our website. I encourage you to visit and enjoy them. And if I have left any particular ones out that YOU enjoy and would like others to know about, that’s what the spaces below are all about.

Happy Trails

I just want to say thank you for the tribute to our soldiers and sailors. My son is serving in the NAvy and stationed in Japan. Memorial Day is always bittersweet for me. TAps helps. We use to sing in Boy Scouts.
